Propane Gas is one the most efficient, cost effective, and safest forms of energy when customers take care to understand how to use and manage it properly. Please take time to read and understand the Propane Safety Rules so that you recognize any warning signs and know what to do if there is an emergency. A1 Propane Gas is happy to help ensure that our customers safely enjoy the many benefits of Propane Gas in their homes, businesses, and on their farms.

No smoking or open flames!

Immediately put out all smoking materials and other open flames when in the the vicinity of a propane appliance. Flames or sparks from these any can trigger an explosion or a fire.

Detecting propane smell!

In its natural form, propane is colorless and odorless. However, an odor of rotten eggs is added to propane to give it a distinctive smell to assist in the detection of propane leaks. Some people may have difficulty smelling propane due to their age (older people may have a less sensitive sense of smell); a medical condition; or the effects of medication, alcohol, tobacco, or drugs.

Don't risk it!

If you smell propane do not operate cell phones, telephones, lights, or swithces near any propane appliances. These are all items that can cause a spark which can lead to an explosion or a fire.

Vacate the area!

Get everyone out of the building or area where you suspect gas is leaking.

Turn off the gas!

Turn off the main gas supply valve on your propane tank if it is safe to do so. To close the valve, turn it to the right (clockwise).

Report gas leaks!

From a neighbor’s home or other nearby building away from the gas leak, call A1 Propane right away. If you can’t reach us, call 911 or your local fire department. Do not attempt to use any of your propane appliances until one of our qualified service technicians check your entire system to ensure that it is leak-free.
